A student sat in my office recently and shared that she had finally found her passion in life. Naturally, I was thrilled at those magic words as I thought to myself, “This is precisely why teachers teach! Its that gratifying moment when a student realizes their gifts.” More than anything in the world she would like to open a salon, specializing in hair and makeup. At this point my head is buzzing with all the excitement of an arts teacher who has a students. What amazed me was that she was surprised that I thought this was a great idea. So much so that she started to tell me all about her Plan B – becoming a pet groomer. Of course, I had to stop her in her tracks and let her know that Plan B should never be more important than Plan A. As a matter of fact Plan B shouldn’t even exist if you know what your passion is. Plan A is all that matters and you make it your life's work to make it successful by any means necessary. Having Plan B suggests that you don’t intend for Plan A to succeed. Why would anyone put that kind of energy out into the universe! Be careful what you ask for and shoot for the stars. All the schmarmy feel good advice you have ever received needs to happen all at once. Pray about it. Take a chance. Believe in yourself. Dream Big!
